Super Typhoon Kong-rey
Super Typhoon Kong-rey formed over the northwest Pacific Ocean on the morning of October 25, 2024.
In the early stage, its development was slow, but in the later stage, it benefited from favorable environmental conditions and experienced explosive strengthening. Within 24 hours from 8:00 on the 29th to 5:00 on the 30th, it completed a "triple jump" in intensity and developed into a super typhoon level, reaching its peak intensity of 60 meters per second on the same day.
At around 14:00 on October 31, it made landfall along the coast of Chenggong Township, Taitung County, Taiwan with a strong typhoon level (48m/second, 945 hectopascals), becoming the strongest typhoon to make landfall in Taiwan in the second half of October since 1949 and the latest strong typhoon to make landfall in Taiwan.
Afterwards, it gradually moved northward along the coast of Fujian and Zhejiang, and gradually weakened and transformed into an extratropical cyclone, but it was not recognized by the Central Meteorological Observatory as making a second landfall along the coast of Zhejiang.
